The Father’s Love for the Lowly
“I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth , for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.”
Usually in society the lowly are not the “favorite of the crowd” because of their many limitations. The rich, the wise, and the learned are the main proponents because they have everything. And since they have everything they usually do not rely on others and even to God. They think that they can exist independently.
In the Gospel of today we can understand why the Father is showing preferential options for the lowly. Maybe because they are in need of him because of their limitations, while the rich, the wise, and the learned think that they can do things of their own and therefore not in need of others and of God.
When we think too much of ourselves that we are great then we are on the way of not needing others and of God. And this orientation is gradually leading us to be away from him. We have heard it from the Gospel that God is showing preferential option for the lowly, then what do we think is the best thing that we can do?
The season of advent is an invitation for us to reflect on the birth of Jesus. He was born in a manger for there was no room for him in the inn. It is but also good to reflect on this.
“Live simply and rely on God for everything .”
